Marcel Topno (1519)

This is me, then.
Date of Birth: 23rd January 1950
This is how they described me in the college Yearbook: His tough, build and great physique won, him the nickname of "Joe" (Frazier). But in contrast, Marcel is a ,shy and soft spoken fellow, who is extremely religious and dedicated to his work. Of set habits, it was almost impossible for him to miss his weekly visit to the church or his daily morning visit to the gym. The mainstay of the College Football Team (defense), he also took a keen interest in other games.

Obituary Circa 2005 : P.K Das reported passing awway of Marcel. Very little is known of the circumstancs of his death and his activities since 1972. We are attempting to find more information, so we can appropriately memorialize his gentle soul.

Here is how smoe batch-mates remeber him.

Looking Back over the years, Marcel Topno. May his soul rest in peace. has cast a picture in my mind as a person who was all smiles. Sadly,I did not get a chance to meet him after we graduated from DMET.-Rajan Bhandari

I did come to know Marcel Topno's sad demise some time back. He was such a wonderful person, always helpful and a great friend.

He always loved to share his joy with everybody but never his pain. And that is what has taken him away so early in his life.I still remember my first experience in a chinese restaurent. It was our first year and Topno took me out for dinner in this Chinese Restaurent opposite Soceity Cinema. It was his birthday. He had ordered for Noodles for both of us.My facial expression must have told him that I was not enjoying my noodles. He promptly ordered for fried rice for me at a princely price of Rs.3.50(it was lot my for us then if u remeber). I have never forgotton this day and now whenever I enter any Chinese resturant I always remeber my first day and Topno.

As full back in our soccer team he was the Chinese wall, and in life he was same for his family and friends. He was a great hocky and basket ball player and could play mouth organ very well. He taught me how to play "Do,Re,me" and "E Nile gagan ke Tale". I still can play these tunes and no other. May his soul rest in peace.- Subrato Roy

We had been aware of Marcel Topnos's passing away, but like the person himself this news was low key. I will always remember Marcel as a quiet, shy and very dear friend.

The last time I met him was almost ten yrs back. I was working in an office close to VT and Marcel had dropped in fr a short visit.Seems like yesterday.

May his soul rest in peace. - Shankar Sinha
